Piaffe
The piaffe is the preparatory exercise for the “Airs above the Ground”, trotting on the same spot, with both elevation and cadence, as well as from spot-to-spot, cantering or a sequence of small jumps that the horse makes close to the ground, marking the terrain in the same movement, united and at the fastest possible speed. The classical masters would apply the Piaffe while raised on Pillars to concentrate, cadence and prepare horses both for the Piaffe and for the “Airs above the Ground”.
