Housed in a building with a Neo-Mudéjar inspiration, it enabled the lifting of water from the park to the palace. The water was drawn from beneath the water table by a complex system of mines and springs and channelled along grooves or lead pipes into closed reservoirs. In addition to supplying the palace, this system remains today essential for irrigating the gardens as its also supplies water to the tanks, many of the lakes, watercourses and cascades that bring life to the park.
