The “boudoir”, or the Queen’s Dressing Room, is one of the most intimate environments in the Palace, where the Queen’s maids of honour – awaiting their orders in the adjoining room – would carry out her daily toilette. This was also where the Queen would receive guests for greater privacy.

The eleven painted canvas panels, on panels or above the doors, represent scenes of childhood alluding to the male and female toilette practices of the 18th century such as powdering the hair, the applications of paper twists to make hair curly as well as the wearing of accessories and jewels.
