Parques De Sintra Palacio De Queluz Sala Musica

This is one area in the palace that has remained practically unaltered as demonstrated by the first inventory of the palace carried out in 1761. The room’s very decoration, in finely carved wood, alludes to its function in depicting violins and other musical instruments hanging by ribbons from the concave section of the ceiling.

In this space, many serenades took place on the occasion of royal birthdays and other court celebrations. On top of the dais, under a portrait of Queen Maria I, there is a rare Clementi pianoforte that, recently restored, continues to be used today in concerts.

At the end of the 18th century, Queen Carlota Joaquina chose this room for her audiences and hand-kissing reception ceremonies.
