Equestrian Activities in the Park of Pena
Some experiences truly are time machines. The equestrian activities in the Park of Pena offer just this sensation: with horse rides in a carriage or on a pony, visitors travel back in time to understand how people used to get around the park in the 19th century. A journey at the rhythm of times past and which prioritises respect for animal welfare, in line with the demands of the present day.
In the western part of the park, Pena Farm has hosted an equestrian programme since 2013. In the Stables you'll find saddle horses, ponies and Ardennais horses, powerful but friendly animals. For them, a walk through the Park of Pena, always at their own pace, is an activity that requires little physical effort. However, in order to ensure the animals' comfort, all rides are interspersed with periods of rest.
In the Stables, visitors can witness the daily management of the animals, shoeing sessions, hoof cleaning, veterinary services, and other aspects of hygiene and food care. These facilities offer exceptional conditions of animal welfare: the space is equipped with a feed and hay store, soft materials for the animals to sleep on, and all the materials required on a daily basis to guarantee the safety, health, and comfort of the animals at Pena Farm.
Next to the stables we find a paddock for warming up the horses and turning the ponies round before any ride begins. Behind it, nestled in the hillside, is a large reservoir of water for firefighting and cleaning, ensuring that the animals are in a safe and sanitised environment at all times.
