Convent of the Capuchos at night | 15/05/2021
On May 3rd is the Day of the Invention of the Holy Cross, which marks the date the Convent of the Capuchos was founded. To celebrate this anniversary, Parques de Sintra has introduced new night tours of this monument.
The tours will begin on May 8th and will take place every Saturday in May. They will be guided tours lasting 45 minutes, with 6 time slots being available between 7pm and 9.30pm. In accordance with the health and safety regulations in force, the maximum capacity will be 6 people per group.
Visitors will therefore have the opportunity to tour a unique Franciscan convent house in a mystical nocturnal setting.
Temporary exhibition “461 years of History”
The anniversary of the founding of the Convent of the Capuchos will also be marked by a temporary exhibition entitled “461 years of History”. This is a small exhibition of certain items from the convent's collection that were found during the archaeological excavations conducted as part of the project to restore the monument.
The objects now on display date from the 17th and 18th centuries and shed light on certain aspects of daily life in the convent. Dishes, small bowls, a vase and terracotta books are some of the artefacts that visitors can admire, which will form part of the future Convent of the Capuchos Museum Centre.
