Time and the Palace(s)
The ‘Time and the Palace(s)’ visit will demonstrate how several houses and palaces from different eras came together to form what is now known as the Palace of Sintra. The visit begins with the archaeological excavations in the Hall of Columns, where Parques de Sintra’s archaeologist will explain some of the most ancient vestiges of the Palace of Sintra, before moving on to the Upper Gardens, where traces of more primitive constructions can still be seen. Experts in engineering, conservation and restoration from the palace will dissect the different layers of time in a journey through the physical space, exploring the ancient layouts and iconography which shaped the appearance of the buildings throughout the ages.
