Visit to the Palace of Pena
Description
The Romantic landscape offers us real insight into 19th-century society and the natural history of the Sintra hills. Walking through the garden, we learn about the people who made Pena and the historical context in which they lived, discovering some of the main exotic trees introduced there. The circulation of water in the park and its relationship with the microclimate of the Sintra mountains are also discussed.
As we approach the palace, the profusion of decorative elements reveals the influences that marked the design of the Artist King, Ferdinand II, taking us back through Portuguese history and literature. On this guided tour, we also visit the chapel of King Manuel I's 15th-century monastery and finish our tour inside the palace, where we can inspect the royal family's rooms and admire the collections on display.
Entry to the inside of the palace is unaccompanied.
