António Rosado in the Piano Cycle at the Palaces of Sintra
Each of António Rosado's recitals is an extremely demanding challenge for both him and the listener. This carefully prepared example begins with Claude Debussy's Suite Bergamasque. In a cycle revolving around Viana da Mota and the Portuguese piano, this will be followed by his Fantasy Piece (Fantasiestücke) Op. 2, which links well with Les cloches de Genève (The Bells of Geneva) from Années de pèlerinage (Years of Pilgrimage) by Franz Liszt, the genius pianist and composer with whom Viana da Mota studied in Weimar. Incidentally, one of Liszt's great qualities was his generosity and ability to recognise the talent of his peers. Proof of this are Chopin's Six Polish Songs, for voice and piano, which Liszt transcribed for solo piano. The recital's ‘grand finale’ is Sergei Rachmaninoff's monumental Sonata No.2, Op.36.

Biography
António Rosado has garnered a national and international reputation during his career, as befits his talent and taste for diversity, expressed in an extensive piano repertoire that includes works by composers as different as George Gershwin, Aaron Copland, Albéniz and Liszt. This versatility has allowed him to present, for the first time in Portugal, renowned works such as Enescu’s Sonatas and Liszt’s Paraphrases, and he is the first Portuguese pianist to perform the complete Preludes and Etudes by Claude Debussy. As for recitals, it is worth mentioning his performance of the complete sonatas of Mozart.
He performed on stage for the first time at the age of four. After beginning his musical studies with his father, he progressed to the Conservatório Nacional de Música in Lisbon, where he earned a degree in Piano, with top marks. At the age of sixteen, he left for Paris and there became the pupil of Aldo Ciccolini at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique, followed by further training in Siena and Biella (Italy).
In 1980, he premièred in concert with the Orchestre National de Toulouse, under the direction of Michel Plasson and, since then, has played with countless international orchestras and renowned conductors including: Georg Alexander Albrecht, Moshe Atzmon, Franco Caracciolo, Pierre Dervaux, Arthur Fagen, Leon Fleischer, Silva Pereira, Claudio Scimone, David Stahl, Marc Tardue and Ronald Zollman.
In chamber music, he has performed with respected musicians, such as Aldo Ciccolini, Maurice Gendron, Margarita Zimmermann, Gerardo Ribeiro and Paulo Gaio Lima, with whom he presented Beethoven’s entire work for cello and piano.
Having been awarded by the Maurice Ravel International Academy and the Perosi International Academy, António Rosado also won the Vianna da Motta International Competition and the Alfredo Casella International Competition in Naples. These prizes demonstrate international recognition of his virtuosity and drive for a brilliant career, with recitals and concerts all around the world and participation in various festivals. In the 1990s, he was the pianist chosen by TF1 to record and broadcast three programmes - Spanish and Portuguese music, Liszt and, finally, a recital of Beethoven, Prokofiev, Wagner-Liszt.
In 2007, France named him Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres.
