Filipa Franco 'Imagem'

Filipa Franco presents her first project as a bandleader and composer, ‘Imagem,’ in a quintet with João Gato (alto saxophone), Vasco Pimentel (piano), Francisco Nogueira (double bass) and João Pereira (drums). Together, they perform an original repertoire: songs, mostly in Portuguese, and instrumental themes in which the voice takes on a more rhythmic and textural role. The music seeks an intimate and lyrical tone through the songs and lyrics, but also one that is rough and raw, exploring free improvisation in a combination of two opposites. Filipa Franco creates a varied yet cohesive repertoire, with the themes not seeking a literal and objective meaning, but rather evoking images or visual scenarios, as do the accompanying lyrics. An honest reflection of the tireless work the artist has put into this project, the first under her own name, it is a delicate album, but one brimming with character and originality.
