Pedro Freitas and Kenny Caetano - Poezz (Spokenword)
In the same way that cinema plays an important role in the dialogue with jazz in this edition of Jazz at Monserrate, we wanted to bring another area to the program, that of the spoken word, in this case the poetic word, spoken on stage by Pedro Freitas, the 'Poeta da Cidade’ or ‘City Poet’, with Kenny Caetano's saxophone at his side.
As a premise, one question: Can poetry also be jazz? The answer to this question will be given through texts gathered in the book Poezz, organized by José Duarte and Ricardo António Alves (Ed. Almedina), authored by poets who, in Portuguese, best wrote this genre: from Djavan or Drummond de Andrade, in South America, to Rui Knopfli, in Mozambique. And always with one certainty: that jazz has always been an art capable of transcending disciplines.
