Parques de Sintra has won the award for "World's Leading Conservation Company" at the World Travel Awards for the 12th consecutive year. The company, responsible for monuments such as the National Palaces of Pena, Sintra and Queluz; the Palace of Monserrate; the Convent of the Capuchos; and the Moorish Castle, has once again been recognised internationally for the excellence of its work with this prestigious trophy. The announcement was made this Sunday, 24 November, during the official awards ceremony, which this year took place in Funchal, Portugal, on the island of Madeira.
Sofia Cruz, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Parques de Sintra, attended the gala event and received the award, stating that ‘continuing to win the World Travel Award for “Best Conservation Company in the World” after twelve consecutive years is only possible with a successful project, where knowledge and professionalism, in an area of great cultural sensitivity, are a lever to do better in the next project, and so on, in a spiral of improvement.’
Sofia Cruz stressed that "our efforts, which have been consistently recognised both nationally and internationally, have meant that more than 25 million people have bought tickets to visit the cultural and natural heritage we manage over the last ten years. During this same period, we have made investments worth 40 million euros thanks to the virtuous circle that characterises the company's pioneering management model, centred on the heritage's ability to generate income that is then reinvested in its recovery and maintenance. These facts demonstrate that we are on the right track. In the future, we plan to invest another 30 million euros in enhancing the assets entrusted to us, always with the same rigour and capacity to innovate that has made us a world reference in our field."
The World Travel Awards were created 31 years ago to honour excellence in all sectors of the tourism industry. Today, they are considered the "Oscars of tourism" and are recognised globally as a seal of quality, making them one of the most prestigious distinctions for companies in the industry. The winners of the various categories, for which hundreds of candidates from all over the world compete, are chosen by means of online voting by professionals in the field and the general public.
Over the last few years, Portugal has been in the spotlight at the World Travel Awards, winning prizes in various categories that reflect not only the growth of tourism in the country, but also the high quality of what it has to offer. In the 2023 edition, Portugal won eleven awards.
