The Portuguese School of Equestrian Art (EPAE) to perform in August in the United Kingdom

11 May 2023

On 4 and 5 August this year, the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art (EPAE) will return to the British stage with two performances at Hartpury Equine College in Gloucester, England. The EPAE shows, scheduled for 7.30 pm, will be the highlight of an equestrian fair that will feature other performances, conferences and demonstrations.

These EPAE performances, at the invitation of All-Steps Formation Riding, mark their return to the UK 10 years after their last show, which took place in Wales. In England, a country with a strong equestrian tradition, the School will present the show "Splendour of Equestrian Art", with 12 riders and 24 Lusitano Alter Real horses, supported by 8 handlers.

For about an hour and a half, the British public will be invited to "travel" to the Portuguese court of the 18th century and get to know the Lusitano horse and the Portuguese equestrian culture and tradition. The School will present Baroque riding exercises such as "airs above the ground" and "courtly games", tournaments practised between the 18th and 19th centuries on festive occasions.

During the event, João Pedro Rodrigues, EPAE's Master Rider, will participate in a conference during which he will speak about the history of the school and his long experience as a rider.
