Following closure caused by Storm Martinho, the Park of Pena reopens partially
07 Apr 2025
On 8 April, the Park of Pena— closed since 19 March due to the consequences of Storm Martinho, which brought down 312 trees of various species within the park — will partially reopen. Emergency work to remove fallen trees, clear paths and stabilise walls began immediately after the storm, allowing visitors to safely enjoy around 55% of the park's area once again.
The paths connecting the National Palace of Pena to Cruz Alta and the Valley of the Lakes, via the Little Birds Fountain, are now accessible once more, as is the route to the Garden of Camellias. In addition, a path between the Valley of the Lakes and the Chalet of the Countess of Edla has also been reopened to visitors.
Due to ongoing work, several areas remain closed: the Stables, the English Garden, the Cold Greenhouse, the Pergola of the Countess of Edla’s Fernery, and the Tea Hill. Visitors will find barriers restricting access to these zones, which must be strictly respected.
The Parques de Sintra teams continue working with the aim of safely reopening further areas of the Park of Pena in the near future.
