The Gatekeeper’s House at the Park of Monserrate is being restored and transformed into a ticket office

11 Apr 2025

The former Gatekeeper’s House, located at the entrance to the Park of Monserrate, is being repurposed to house the ticket office for this visitor site. The building is currently undergoing works to adapt it to its new function. This project is part of the management and safeguarding plan for the Park and Palace of Monserrate, aiming to offer improved conditions both for visitors, upon arrival, as well as for the Parques de Sintra staff responsible for operations at this location.

The works include the conservation and restoration of the building’s façades, roof repairs, upgrades to infrastructure, and the installation of scenic lighting on the façade and at the main entrance to the Park of Monserrate. The interior will also be refurbished and reorganised, and will feature a visitor information area and a ticket sales point for the various parks and monuments managed by Parques de Sintra.

The project also includes the refurbishment and upgrading of the adjacent toilet facilities, as well as the restoration of the façades of the building close to the park’s main entrance, which houses a power transformer station.

The intervention is expected to be completed in the second half of this year.
