"Magical Garden Aladdin Sintra" will continue to light up the nights in the New Garden of the Palace of Queluz until 30 December
11 Sept 2023
The multimedia show "Magical Garden Aladdin Sintra", on display in the New Garden of the National Palace of Queluz, will be extended until 30 December. This immersive outdoor experience, which was originally scheduled to end on 10 September, has been very well received since its premiere on 28 June 2023 and has already attracted more than 40,000 visitors.
Developed by the OCUBO studio in partnership with Parques de Sintra and with the support of Sintra Municipal Council, this third edition of the "Magical Garden" show uses sophisticated immersive and interactive technologies to create an unforgettable adventure. Evoking the festive atmosphere that characterised the use of the gardens of the National Palace of Queluz, initially the summer residence of the Royal Family and later the permanent residence of Queen Maria I, it offers a true encounter between past and future.
The "Magical Garden Aladdin Sintra" is inspired by a tale from "The Thousand and One Nights", which has been a classic in Europe since its translation from Arabic into French in the early 18th century. The experience invites us to enjoy the natural surroundings of one of the last great rococo-style buildings erected in Europe. The magical one-kilometre nocturnal journey through Aladdin's adventures surprises participants with luminous sculptures, holograms, augmented reality experiences, interactive installations, video mapping projections and an impressive 10-metre water fan.
Sofia Cruz, Chair of the Board of Directors of Parques de Sintra, emphasises that "the National Palace of Queluz is an exceptional stage for this event, as it has always been geared towards leisure and all kinds of entertainment for the court and high society of the 18th century. Since the opening of Magical Garden Aladdin Sintra, which has enjoyed a great reception from audiences, the evenings at the Queluz Gardens have used contemporary technologies and effects to recover the festive atmosphere that has always characterised them, while also reviving the taste for exoticism so present in this space. The show will continue until the end of the year, meaning no one has to miss out on this new experience of this heritage site that Parques de Sintra seeks to revitalise in the most diverse ways."
According to Nuno Maya, Creative Director of the OCUBO studio, "Magical Garden is a truly immersive cultural initiative, which takes place in close articulation with the historical and natural heritage it occupies, providing unprecedented experiences in these renowned gardens through the use of technology. In this edition, which marks the debut of the Magical Garden in the New Garden of the National Palace of Queluz, past and future come together in a very special and surprising way, inviting even more people to experience the magical universe of the Thousand and One Nights while discovering the historical legacy of the monument itself in an innovative way."
In its first two editions, "Magical Garden" received more than 320,000 visitors between Porto and Lisbon. The show is presented from Wednesday to Sunday, with an additional session at 9pm, opening from 1 September. Tickets cost between €8 and €14, with free entry for children up to 3 years old, and can be purchased through the PORTUGALAGENDA.COM platform.
