Passage of "La Vuelta 2024" through Sintra restricts access to monuments on 18 August

Access to the parks and monuments managed by Parques de Sintra, with the exception of the National Palace of Queluz, will be heavily restricted due to the "La Vuelta 2024" (Tour of Spain by Bike) between 11.20am and 1pm on 18 August, when it passes through the municipality of Sintra.

 

The prestigious international cycling event will require traffic restrictions at key points for those travelling to the National Palaces of Sintra and Pena; the Moorish Castle; the Park and Palace of Monserrate; and the Convent of the Capuchos. The following locations will be affected:

 

  • National Road 9, from Linhó to Ramalhão;
  • National Road 249, from Ramalhão to Avenida Movimento das Forças Armadas;
  • D. Afonso Square (Portela de Sintra);
  • Avenida Heliodoro Salgado;
  • National Road 247 towards Lourel;
  • Vila Verde;
  • National Road 9 to Fervença;
  • Fação;
  • Pêro Pinheiro.

 

In this 79th edition of "La Vuelta", the first three stages will start and finish in Portuguese territory. The race starts on 17 August in Lisbon, with the second stage taking place the following day between Cascais and Ourém, passing through Sintra, over a distance of 194 kilometres.

 

With the participation of 176 cyclists from 22 teams, "La Vuelta 2024" will comprise a total of 21 stages over more than 3,300 kilometres. The race finishes in Madrid on 8 September.
