Guided night-time tours of the Convent of the Capuchos are returning in May

18 Apr 2024

In May, the doors of the Convent of the Capuchos, in the heart of the Sintra Hills, are once again open at night, to welcome guided tours, in the intimate setting enhanced by the twilight and nocturnal atmosphere. The “Convent of the Capuchos by Night” celebrates the anniversary of this convent house, founded on the 3rd of May, the Feast of the Holy Cross, in 1560, and starts on the 4th of May, being repeated every Saturday until the end of the month. Tours will take place at various times throughout the evening for you to choose from, between 7:30 pm and 10 pm.

The route, on which you will always be accompanied by a guide, begins and ends near the entrance gate to the Convent of the Capuchos, and will include the Courtyard of the Crosses, the entire interior of the convent and the cloister. Throughout the circuit, participants are invited to discover this Franciscan convent fully integrated into nature and to experience the simplicity that characterised the lives of the friars living there, who sought spiritual redemption, far removed from the outside world. At the end, a comforting tea will be served, which sets the tone for a brief moment of convivial interaction.

With a capacity limited to 15 people per group, the tours last approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes and will be conducted in Portuguese or English. Tickets are on sale, exclusively on the Parque de Sintra website, for the price of €16 for adults; €14 for young people (6-17 years old) and seniors (+65 years old); and €49 for families (2 adults + 2 young people). Children under 6 years old participate free of charge.
